"We support your initiative. We are working over this issue with the Ministry of Education and higher educational institutions. The government will work and create a working group to implement your ideas," N. Nazarbayev said in response to the offer of the member of the Executive Committee of Baker and McKenzie International Koen Vanhaerents to consider the possibility for Kazakhstan to become a leader among the CIS countries in regards to attraction of branch schools of foreign universities. "Not only students from Kazakhstan, but also students from other CIS countries could be trained in those schools." "Attraction of school branches of foreign universities to Kazakhstan will demand from the government significant investment funds and long terms." Baker and McKenzie recommends to create an interdepartmental working group to consider the questions and development of recommendations for the government ... The working group will study the experience of the other countries, which have successfully attracted foreign universities. If the working group comes to a conclusion on the necessity of attraction of branch schools of foreign universities to Kazakhstan, it will prepare its recommendations concerning the category and quantity of foreign universities," Koen Vanhaerents said.
