Anti-Russian sanctions are not intended against Kazakhstan, they say in Washington

The US sides also expressed readiness to assist in the promotion of Kazakhstan's membership in OECD.
During his working visit to Washington, the Kazakh National Economy Minister, Timur Suleimenov, discussed a range of issues with his US counterparts, including the cooperation, the implementation of prior agreements and US sanctions policy, Ministry's official website reports.

The implementation of the agreements reached between the Presidents of Kazakhstan and the United States of America in this January was of special attention, the Ministry's report notes. As well as the observation of Kazakhstan's economic interests amid US's anti-Russian sanctions, and the promotion of Kazakhstan's potential membership in the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) were touched upon.

The US sides said that the economic sanctions against several states were not intended to America's key partner in the region - the Republic of Kazakhstan. Also, the concrete agreements to maintain an active dialogue so as to minimize the sanctions' possible economic impact to Kazakhstan's economy were reached," reads the press release.

As for the discussion of Kazakhstan's potential membership in OECD and the promotion of the country's status in a number of the Organization's Committees, the US side expressed readiness to assist in this direction.

During the meetings, the Kazakh Minister of National Economy with representatives of the United States Department of State stressed the interest to implement new joint projects in infrastructure, agriculture, food processing, and production. Responsible persons of both sides to maintain an active and regular exchange of views on these issues were assigned," says the report.

According to the Ministry of National Economy of Kazakhstan, the US Senators, in turn, "confirmed the significance of Kazakhstan as a key partner in the region and noted that the sanctions imposed on Russia were not intended against Kazakhstan's economy".
