N.Nigmatulin called for struggle to strengthen security altogether

A cooperation of the Central Asian parliamentarians makes it possible to provide legislative support for international processes that take place in the society and the struggle for strengthening regional and global security must not be carried out separately. This opinion was expressed by Chairman of the Majilis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan Nurlan Nigmatulin at the international round table "Role of Parliaments in Legislative Provision of Cooperation and Regional Security in Central Asia" in Astana.

Astana. 25 May. Kazakhstan Today - A cooperation of the Central Asian parliamentarians makes it possible to provide legislative support for international processes that take place in the society and the struggle for strengthening regional and global security must not be carried out separately. This opinion was expressed by Chairman of the Majilis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan Nurlan Nigmatulin at the international round table "Role of Parliaments in Legislative Provision of Cooperation and Regional Security in Central Asia" in Astana.

"Today the role of the Parliament, which is an important institution, both within the state and international life, grows all over the world and plays an increasingly important role in determining a political agenda. Mechanisms for ensuring international security by the Parliament of our countries are called upon to solve a number of important tasks. Parliaments develop and constantly improve the legislative base on the basis of which all actors function and interact," the Speaker of the Majilis opening the meeting said.

At that, he noted, Kazakhstan's state policy in the sphere of security has also been carried out in a coordination of the legislative power.

"The new global challenges to security in the world and in Central Asia require special attention of the Parliaments of our countries. Today it becomes obvious that without a solution to long-term issues of sustainable socio-economic and infrastructural development it will be impossible to achieve stable peace and security in the region. Life shows and teaches us that this work needs to be conducted in a comprehensive, not spontaneous, but systematic way, taking into account all objective and subjective factors. Including, combining national and international force, strategy and interests," N. Nigmatulin added.

As the Speaker noted, the cooperation of parliamentarians in the region makes it possible to provide legislative support for international processes that take place in the society.

"Undoubtedly, such a serious representation of influential parliamentarians, heads of Central Asian structures in this sphere is an indicator of active involvement of the international parliamentary community in the process of ensuring stability, cooperation, security of our region. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Collective Security Treaty and 10 years of the creation of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly," the Chairman of the Majilis said.

He also mentioned Kazakhstan's official accession to the rights of a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council on January 1, 2017 and told what our country will do to avoid international conflicts.

"Our country as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council intends to contribute to the achievement of compromise and consensus building in order to strengthen international peace and security and will seek to strengthen among the member states of the Council the understanding of the importance of creating an updated 21st century model of the state's relationship at which collective responsibility for the solution Global regional challenges is formed," N. Nigmatulin noted.

At the same time, he added that Kazakhstan proposes that all the countries of Central Asia in fact demonstrate that the region stands for an early return to the peaceful life of Afghanistan.

"We are all well aware that solutions to the Afghan problem without the integration of this country into regional processes in Central Asia will be impossible to ensure long-term stability in the region. These are realities of time, which are confirmed by historical events, and we should clearly understand this. Therefore, Kazakhstan suggests that all the countries of Central Asia in fact demonstrate that the region stands for an early return to the peaceful life of Afghanistan, providing the country with diverse assistance in economic and social development, countering the threat to peace and security. This will underscore the important role that the regions play in solving the Afghan problems," the Speaker summed up.

In this regard, Kazakhstan during its stay at the UN Security Council in January 2018, intends to initiate broad, balanced, informative, and most importantly effective discussions on measures to strengthen peace and security in Central Asia.
