1026 Kazakhs are inter-State fugitives, says Kazakh General Prosecutor's Office

Other 1499 entered into the register of internationally wanted persons.
1026 Kazakh citizens appeared on the inter-State wanted list, Andrey Lukin told at a plenary session of the Mazhilis.

Total of 1499 persons are international fugitives, including 1026 inter-State wanted suspects," said Deputy General Prosecutor Andrey Lukin.

He has noted that Kazakhstan has 19 mutual extradition treaties with non-CIS states so far. Mazhilis deputies approved the ratification of 20th treaty with Jordan at the expanded session on 16 January.

The treaty was signed November 1st in 2017 in Astana as part of the official visit of the King of Jordan to Kazakhstan, which regulates the extradition of wanted persons between both countries for prosecuting and sentencing. The document includes the legal bases for both extradition and refusal," said Lukin.

Andrey Lukin has underlined that no fugitives have been identified by the General Prosecutor’s Office of Kazakhstan in Jordan.

There are no fugitives in Jordan, as well as the persons wanted by the Jordan authorities. And, since the treaty is preventive, it is supposed that in case such persons are identified, there will be a good legal basis for effective cooperation in the fight against crimes," he said.

In the near future, Kazakhstan is to sign such treaties with Macedonia, Cuba, Malaysia and Greece.

According to Lukin, where there is no treaty, the countries act on the basis of the principle of reciprocity.

This practice is widely spread. Three persons were extradited from Germany in this way past year," said Andrey Lukin.
