75% of Kazakhstan citizens support corporal punishments of children - UNICEF

According to experts, the tolerant relation to violence against children is observed in society.
About 75% of the population of Kazakhstan support application of violent methods of disciplining of children, the chairman of UNICEF in Kazakhstan Yury Oksamitny said at the press conference in Astana, BNews.kz correspondent reported.

What is the situation in Kazakhstan? In 2016 together with the center for human rights we have conducted a research on this subject and have revealed that about 75% of the population of Kazakhstan support application of violent methods of disciplining of children. It is more, than a half of the population. It is social norm, that is the society has the tolerant relation to violence against children," the chairman of UNICEF in Kazakhstan said.


According to him, the Kazakhstan children face home violence, in residential care facilities, schools and on streets.

Also at a press conference the chairman of UNICEF in Kazakhstan announced the beginning in the country of a large-scale communication campaign for protection of the rights of children. The first will be directed to increase in awareness of young parents and also all public about inadmissibility of violent methods in questions of education and training of children. The second communication company will be focused on experts in the sphere of protection of children and justice for formation of friendship to children who are in the conflict with the law.

We hope that our company will lead to certain changes, including development of positive methods of education in family. That is not only to say that it is impossible, and to show, what is possible and is necessary. Increase in awareness on violence forms which include, both physical, and psychological violence. We within our campaign will develop informing on negative consequences of violence and to reach zero tolerance in the attitude towards children," he noted.


At the same time the representative of UNICEF in Kazakhstan has emphasized that the campaign will include various actions, production of social rollers, work on social networks and work with media. At the same time the campaign will be planned and be carried out together with national structures and NGO.

As it has been told at a press conference, the communication companies will last three years. In the first year it will be carried out in Astana, Almaty, the Aktobe, Kyzylorda, Mangystau, East Kazakhstan, Southern Kazakhstan regions.
