The Russians are not afraid of mice

1. Russia (Liliya Vasilieva, Olga Repnitshina, Anna Nechaevskaya) - 42:25.1

2. Kazakhstan (Anna Shevchenko, Olga Mandryka, Irina Bykova) - 43:17.2

3. France (Coralie Bentz , Lea Damiani, Lallier Celine Chopard) - 44:11.2

Midway through the first leg of the race, a group of leaders broke away from the rest of the field: KazakhstanИs Anna Shevchenko, RussiaИs Liliya Vasilieva and FranceИs Coralie Bentz.

The Russian and Kazakh skiers were the first to pass the baton. They were able to break away from the French skier and gained a 34 second gap.

The Kazakh-Russian duo completed the second leg of the race by keeping a steady pace. The skiers were able to maintain their speed and to increase the gap over the chasing skier even further.

An unusual spectator caused a lot of commotion among fans. A little mouse appeared on the trails as if greeting the skiers. Despite the belief (that women dislike rodents), the skiers did not pay any attention to the new fan.

- We are not afraid of mice in Russia, we have tons of them, - RussiaИs Olga Remnitskaya said. - They run alongside us in some regions in our country. We train together (laughing).

There was one last leg of the race left. The Russian team had one very experienced skier, a title holder and medal winner at the 2017-Universiade, Anna Nechaevskaya, running the last leg of the race. Anna did not let her team down. She broke away early on in the first lap - crossed the finish line alone, gaining a gap exceeding 50 seconds to KazakhstanИs Irina Bykova.

- My leg was the most contentious one. No one counted on me, - Irina Bykova shared her impressions. - I did not manage to do well in my individual races. I did my best in this race. I ran as best as I could. Perhaps this was a disastrous race and I was not lucky. But you see what you want to see. In any case, I really tried my best to run well.
