4th Meeting of Trade Ministers of LLDCs took place in Almaty

A declaration of the ministers is expected to be adopted at the end of the meeting.

Almaty. September 13. Kazakhstan Today - The 4th Meeting of Trade Ministers of LLDCs and the High-level thematic meeting on international trade, trade facilitation and aid-for-trade take place in Almaty today, Kazakhstan Today reports.

According to the Prime Minister's official website, the trade ministers of 30 developing countries discuss the issues of strengthening the positions in international trade negotiations in order to achieve fuller integration of geographically disadvantaged countries into the global economy.

In accordance with the UN thematic plan, the meeting serves as a preparation for the 10th anniversary meeting on consideration of the Almaty Program of Action of the landlocked countries which is scheduled for 2014.

It is worth noting that one of the priority directions of this Program is assistance in development of the international trade for acceleration of accession of developing and transit countries in the WTO.

Besides, such issues as facilitating access to all markets for export from the developing and transit countries, assistance in simplification of trade procedures and WTO accession, improvement of trade at frontier posts and others are among the priorities.

The efforts on provision of the access to the global markets will provide new opportunities for realization of the transit and export potential of Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstan's bid for hosting international specialized exhibition EXPO-2017 in Astana was also presented at the 4th meeting of trade ministers of LLDCs.

A declaration of the ministers is expected to be adopted at the end of the meeting.

The first meeting of the Trade Ministers of landlocked developing countries was held in 2005. The meetings became regular over the recent years. It is very important for addressing the issues regarding strengthening of trade potential of landlocked developing countries as well as for forming a common vision of solution of the key issues outlined in the program of international trade.
