Agriculture Ministry estimates potential of grain production in Kazakhstan of 26 million tons

Astana. April 14. Kazakhstan Today - Agriculture Ministry of Kazakhstan estimates potential of manufacture of grain in Kazakhstan in immediate prospects totaling 26 million tons. The Minister of Agriculture Akylbek Kurishbayev said during the meeting with the deputies of the regional maslikhat of Akmola oblast on Saturday, the agency reports.

"The leader of the state set the objective to become one of five leading exporters of wheat. We should export wheat at the level of at least 12 million tons a year," A. Kurishbayev reminded.

"We have a reserve to stably produce such quantity of wheat for export: technologies and expansion of the areas under crops - these are two sources, owing to which we can in the immediate prospects produce on average 26 million tons grain annually, 18 million of wheat, 12 of which we can export," he considers.

The Minister of Agriculture reminded that Uzbekistan and Tajikistan export 9-10 million grain each year through the traditional routes of Kazakhstan export through Russia and Ukraine,. "To expand export, we need to have the access to the Caspian and Black Seas. We are building grain terminals to have the shortest ways to Europe, Northern Africa, Asia and the Arabian countries," The Minister of Agriculture explained.

"On the other hand, there is a big potential of export to China that imports 8 million tons of wheat annually," he continued. "We should export our wheat to the Western China; it is nearly 1 - 1.5 million tons a year," A. Kurishbayev concluded.
