Central Asia Metals plc completed construction of Kounrad copper plant worth $39 mln

The Company commenced production of copper cathodes at its flagship plant, Kounrad, in Kazakhstan, during the period following completion of the construction of a10,000 tonne per annum Solvent Extraction-Electro Winning plant in April 2012.

Almaty. September 28. Kazakhstan Today - Central Asia Metals plc a mining company with operations in Kazakhstan and Mongolia announced unaudited interim results for the six months ended 30 June 2012.

The Company commenced production of copper cathodes at its flagship plant, Kounrad, in Kazakhstan, during the period following completion of the construction of a10,000 tonne per annum Solvent Extraction-Electro Winning plant in April 2012.

According to MineWeb, the company completed construction of Kounrad copper plant in Kazakhstan for $39 million, $8 million lower than budgeted. Production commenced on 29 April 2012. 1,728 tonnes of copper cathodes have been produced at Kounrad in the two months to 30 June 2012. 1,386 tonnes of copper cathodes sold to Traxys in the period.

Agreement to purchase an additional 40% of the Kounrad project for 8.6 m shares in the company is a subject to State approval.
