Construction of Zhezkazgan - Beineu railway commences

The first rakes will be launched in the first quarter of 2015 and works are underway at two opposite directions from Zhezkazgan and Saksaul station.

Almaty. September 18. Kazakhstan Today - Active construction of a branch railroad connecting Zhezkazgan and Beineu has started in the Karaganda region.

According to Caspionet, the 988-km sidetrack will link the Mangistau, West Kazakhstan, Kyzylorda and Karaganda regions. The first rakes will be launched in the first quarter of 2015 and works are underway at two opposite directions from Zhezkazgan and Saksaul station. The volume of a land fill will be worth around 17 million cubic metres. On this 500-km section alone 9 new stations and 19 small passing tracks are planned to be set up.

"Works are now underway on the area of 50 kilometres from the Zhezkazgan station and on a 30-km section from the Saksaul station. Over 10 construction companies are operating on the site to build engineering structures; concrete products are being brought in to make pipe barrels," Assylbek Aitkazinov, Director of Construction Management said.

The implementation of this large-scale project will help to turn Zhezkazgan, which has only terminal stations, into one of the largest road junctions of the region. 9 additional roads will be built at the station; the locomotive shed will be considerably expanded to allow for creating over a thousand new jobs. Career training courses are already being provided in Zhezkazgan.

"All the students who are graduating from technical schools and are specialising in railway engineering in Zhezkazgan, will be able to apply for a job at our stations. Our stations will be a source of manpower and all our officers on duty and mid-level managers will be working at passing tracks. This is how the issue is being tackled now," Maksutkazhy Shaken, Deputy Director of Zhezkazgan region branch of Kazakhstan Railways JSC said.

Contractors plan to use up over 2.5 billion tenge at the construction site. Plans for next year include the completion of all groundwork operations stretching from Zhezkazgan to Beineu and embarking on plate laying.
