Customs Union may complete WTO accession negotiations within 1.5 - 2 years

The Customs Union will carry on the negotiations with the World Trade Organization. Vice Minister of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, Andrey Slepnev, informed on Thursday, the agency reports citing RosBusinessConsulting (RBC).

Almaty. October 2. Kazakhstan Today - The Customs Union will carry on the negotiations with the World Trade Organization. Vice Minister of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, Andrey Slepnev, informed on Thursday, the agency reports citing RosBusinessConsulting (RBC).

"We will be able to finish this process within 1.5 - 2 years," A. Slepnev said.

The prime ministers of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan made a decision to notify WTO that the countries will join the organization as a uniform customs territory in June, 2009. All three countries have suspended bilateral negotiations on joining the organization for the period of carrying out of consultations on formation of the joined position. The consultations of the joined negotiation delegation of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan concerning joining WTO took place in Moscow on September 2 - 3, 2009. The mechanisms, which will allow continuation of the future negotiations about joining the organization, have been coordinated.
