During negotiations with Australia on Kazakhstan introduction into WTO the country managed to defend its interests - Industry Ministry

During the negotiations with Australia on Kazakhstan introduction into World Trade Organization (WTO) the country managed to defend its interests, the agency reports referring to the press service of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce of Kazakhstan.

Astana. October 2. Kazakhstan Today - During the negotiations with Australia on Kazakhstan introduction into World Trade Organization (WTO) the country managed to defend its interests, the agency reports referring to the press service of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce of Kazakhstan.

According to the press service, final round of bilateral negotiations with Australia regarding introduction of Kazakhstan into WTO took place on September 23 during the visit of the Kazakhstan delegation to Canberra.

"During the meeting the parties discussed conditions of access of the Kazakhstan market of meat, meat and dairy production, and services in the field of mining industry, energy, construction, engineering and architectural services.

"The structure of economy of Australia and Kazakhstan is similar. For example, Australia is one of the main suppliers of mineral raw materials, meat and meat products, wool and grain to the world commodity markets," the Ministry emphasized.

"Taking into account that these goods are sensitive for the economy of Kazakhstan, the reached arrangements by the results of bilateral negotiations completely meet the economic interests of our country," the department considers. In particular, following the results of the negotiations, Kazakhstan has reserved the right to apply customs duties on meat and dairy products at the level that will allow protecting the interests of Kazakhstan manufacturers of these products."

"Considering the fact that Australia is the influential participant of WTO and one of the key negotiators for Kazakhstan on introduction into this international organization, completion of bilateral negotiations is an important step for the process of Kazakhstan introduction into WTO as a whole and will have a positive influence on negotiations with other member countries of the organization," Industry Ministry employees said.

According to the press service, as of today, Kazakhstan has completed the negotiations with 21 out of 25 countries actively participating in the negotiation process on Kazakhstan introduction into WTO.
