EBRD received status of UN General Assembly observer

The General Assembly of the United Nations on December 6 approved resolution on granting the Eurasian Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) the status of observer in the UN General Assembly, the agency reports referring to EBRD press service.

Almaty. December 10. Kazakhstan Today - The General Assembly of the United Nations on December 6 approved resolution on granting the Eurasian Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) the status of observer in the UN General Assembly, the agency reports referring to EBRD press service.

"The recognition of the bank as the observer in the UN General Assembly solves two important strategic objectives," the vice president of EBRD board Nikita Tolstikov emphasized. According to our mission we obtain an official recognition as the international organization of development, secondly, we expand our opportunities for attraction of investments into the region: having received such status, the bank can cooperate more effectively with the international financial institutions, advance investment projects of the EBRD member countries," he explained.

According to the press service, the size of credit portfolio of the bank makes nearly $250 million, and the exchequer portfolio totals nearer to $1 billion. The Bank considers a possibility of expansion of cooperation with World Bank - in the field of co-financing of complex projects, management of exchequer actives and joint investments into funds of direct investments.
