GE Transportation and Kazakhstan Temir Zholy to produce passenger locomotives

GE will deliver 110 of its Evolution Series locomotive kits, which will be assembled by Lokomotiv Kurastyru Zauyty, a joint-stock company of Kazakhstan and a subsidiary of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy.

Almaty. September 20. Kazakhstan Today - GE Transportation and Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) signed a "landmark" agreement to extend their partnership in Kazakhstan to produce passenger locomotives at an assembly plant in Astana, GE said on Wednesday.

According to Progressive Railroading, GE will deliver 110 of its Evolution Series locomotive kits, which will be assembled by Lokomotiv Kurastyru Zauyty, a joint-stock company of Kazakhstan and a subsidiary of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy. The first order of locomotives will be delivered in the first half of 2014. Also, GE announced it will collaborate with Hong Kong rail operator MTR Corp. to apply GE's Tempo CBTC and Interlocking solutions for MTR's metro infrastructure. The collaboration is a first between GE and MTR, GE officials said.

Bombardier Transportation and Electro-Motive Diesel Inc. will join forces to assemble diesel-electric locomotives in India, the companies announced Wednsday. Bombardier will manufacture components, including underframes and trucks, and assemble the EMD locomotives at its Savli plant in India. EMD will provide all engineering and quality control, and will be responsible for product performance.
