Gold and exchange currency reserves of Kazakhstan grew by 16.8 %

Astana. January 5. Kazakhstan Today - The Kazakhstan international reserves (in the current prices), including money of the National Fund (by preliminary data totaled $14.039.1mln) for December 29, 2006 made $33.089-mln., that is by 16.8 % more than one month ago, the National Bank press service informed the agency.

In the current prices net international reserves of the National Bank grew in December by 26.2 % (or by $3.959.8 mln). In spite of the operations on updating actives of the National Fund, service of the external debt of the Ministry of Finance from the accounts of gold and exchange currency reserves, purchase by the State Bank of currency in the internal currency market, currency income in the accounts of the National Bank and increase of the balance of the correspondent accounts of the banks of the second level in foreign currency in the National Bank caused the increase of currency reserves.

As a result, net foreign currency reserves (hard currency) increased by $3.911.500. Actives in gold grew by $48.3 million as a result of lead operations and decrease of its price in the world markets by 0.42 %. In real terms, net international reserves of the National Bank grew by 26.7 %, net actives in hard currency - by 28.4 %, actives in gold - by 4.1 %. According to the press service, in December, 2006 growth of net international reserves of the National Bank caused the expansion of monetary base by 27.1 % (or by 319.9 bln. KZT).
