Gold and exchange currency reserves of Kazakhstan increased by 21%

The international reserves of the country (in the current prices), including the resources of the National Fund (according to the preliminary data $27 334.2 million), have increased during the month by 1.9 % and have totaled $46 734.7 million (in 2008 growth reached 21.0 %), the agency reports citing the press service of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstan Today - The international reserves of the country (in the current prices), including the resources of the National Fund (according to the preliminary data $27 334.2 million), have increased during the month by 1.9 % and have totaled $46 734.7 million (in 2008 growth reached 21.0 %), the agency reports citing the press service of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

"Growth of net international reserves and net internal assets of the National Bank in December, 2008 has caused expansion of monetary base by 13.3 % up to 172.8 billion KZT (for 2008 expansion of monetary base totaled 0.5 % or 7.2 billion KZT)," the National Bank press release states.

Operations on sale of currency in the internal currency market, service of external debt of the government, and decrease of the rests on correspondent accounts of the banks of the second level in foreign currency in the National Bank have been neutralized by reconversion of the assets of the National Fund in currency assets of the National Bank and receipt of currency in the government accounts in the National Bank.

As a result, net foreign currency reserves (hard currency) in December, 2008 have increased by $180.4 million (in 2008 - by $1.6 billion).

Assets in gold in December, 2008 grew by $119.4 million, as a result of growth of its price in the world markets by 6.3 % (in 2008 - assets in gold grew by $0.2 billion, as a result of the operations and growth of its price in the world markets by 4.4 %)

In the current prices net international reserves of the National Bank have grown by 1.6 % or by $299.8 million (in 2008 growth made 10.0 % or $1.8 billion).
