Importance of Kazakhstan grows in world oil-and-gas industry - Masimov

The importance of Kazakhstan is steadily growing in world oil-and-gas industry, the Prime Minister Karim Masimov stated on Thursday at the II Eurasian power forum in Astana.

Astana. September 7. Kazakhstan Today - The importance of Kazakhstan is steadily growing in world oil-and-gas industry, the Prime Minister Karim Masimov stated on Thursday at the II Eurasian power forum in Astana.

"Kazakhstan has been a reliable and responsible participant of the system of maintenance of international power security. Its role is steadily growing in world oil-and-gas industry," he said.

"For the last 15 years, volume of world oil extraction increased by third and in Kazakhstan - almost by two times. At the beginning of independence, Kazakhstan extracted annually more than 26 million tons of oil. This year about 67 million tons is expected to be extracted and by 2015, taking into account development of the Caspian deposits, we can expect 140 million tons of oil a year," K. Masimov explained.

The Prime Minister noted that alongside with an increase of extraction, investment appeal of oil-and-gas and energy branches of the Republic is also growing. "Total inflow of direct foreign investments to the economy of our country for the period since 1993 have made more than 50 bln of US dollars, and almost half of them account for oil-and-gas and energy sectors," the Prime Minister emphasized.

K. Masimov noted, "the share of the largest investors of the economy of Kazakhstan - the USA, Russia, China, the Great Britain, the Netherlands, France, Italy and Japan accounts for almost three quarters of the total volume."
