Kazakhstan agrarians expect to harvest 120 thousand tonnes of soybeans

2012 was quite successful for farmers, who are growing soybeans. Experts predict that at the end of the year the harvest of soybeans will exceed 120 thousand tonnes, which is 20% more than in 2011. Specialists noted that for the first time since 2010, when the majority of large farms were unable to withstand post-crisis tests, the market again faces an increase in consumption of soybeans.

Almaty. September 19. Kazakhstan Today - At the end of 2012 the harvest of soybeans will exceed 120 thousand tonnes, which is 20% more than a year before. The "MAZHIKO-2020" will favour the further development of this area.

According to Caspionet, 2012 was quite successful for farmers, who are growing soybeans. There are new players and today the country has everything for the establishment of the large production basis of soybeans.

"The demand for foodstuffs, soybeans and combined feed is increasing, which results in the increase in the raw materials base. This situation results in the increase in production. This year the crop areas increased by over 12 thousand hectares," Arman Yevniyev, Programme Manager of "MAZHIKO-2020" Programme said.

In order to support local producers of soybeans, Kazakhstan has launched the "Oil, Fats, Combined Feed-2020" programme, created with the participation of the state and the private sector. This programme is aimed towards allocation of money, implementing projects and increase in the harvest of soybeans by 1 million tonnes until 2020.

"We have defined the main issues the programme will be dealing with. One of such issues is the seed industry. Taking into account the expansion of area under crops, by 2020 we will be in need of 44 thousand tonnes of seeds. It means that someone should be dealing with the production of seeds. We need to modernize the production basis," Arman Yevniyev said.

Experts noted that the programmes give farms a possibility to implement any projects, since investments are coming for different sources, including state subsidies, leasing, loans, and local budgets.

"We are aiming at searching for the interest of every partner and establish our project on the basis of this interest. We are receiving money from different sources. Of course there are very expensive facilities, such as the irrigation system, which only the government is able to finance. In this case we need to convince the state and water resources department to allocate money," Arman Yevniyev said.

The Kazakh Zerno information portal has announced that in 2012-2013 the world production of soybeans equals to 259 million tonnes, which is 9% more than last year. East Asia and China are the main consumers of this crop.
