Kazakhstan to double export duty of oil

Kazakhstan plans to double export duty of oil from January 1, 2011 up to $40 per metric ton to increase the budget receipts. Two government officials informed, the agency reports citing Bloomberg.

Almaty. September 1. Kazakhstan Today - Kazakhstan plans to double export duty of oil from January 1, 2011 up to $40 per metric ton to increase the budget receipts. Two government officials informed, the agency reports citing Bloomberg.

"The Cabinet of Ministers can make a decision to change duties during consideration of the budget in Astana. The government expects increase of receipt of duties by 421 billion KZT ($2.9 billion) next year," one of the officials said.

Kazakhstan has about 3 % of the proved world's reserves of oil. The government introduced duty for oil export in May, 2008 to increase cash receipts after toughening of the situation in the world credit markets.

Export duties were cancelled in January, 2009 and introduced again at the rate of $20 per ton for 40 manufacturers. Open Company TengizCevroil, largest oil exporter in the country, is one of the companies that have been imposed duties for the first time.
