Kazakhstani hospitals transfer to new payment system since 2013

This system provides for standardization of the current tariffs in accordance with the international ones, Deputy Minister of Healthcare of Kazakhstan Erik Baizhunusov informed at the briefing of the Official Spokesperson of the Central Communications Service.

Almaty. January 22. Kazakhstan Today - In order to improve medical services, a new payment system is introduced in medical clinics of Kazakhstan since 2013.

According to the Prime Minister's official website, this system provides for standardization of the current tariffs in accordance with the international ones, Deputy Minister of Healthcare of Kazakhstan Erik Baizhunusov informed at the briefing of the Official Spokesperson of the Central Communications Service.

"This year we have introduced a new mechanism of payment. We take a new tariff equaling the cost of treatment in foreign hospitals and use it as a standard for payment for treatment in our clinics. This measure is taken in order to stimulate our healthcare specialists to render high-quality services," E. Baizhunusov said.

Besides, he noted that the hospitals of Kazakhstan have enough potential to render highly technological medical services.

99 patients who were expected to undergo surgeries in foreign countries in 2012 have undergone surgeries in Kazakhstan's clinics. Thus, 50 operations on transplantations of kidneys, 1 - on transplantation of heart, 22 - on transplantation of bone marrow of adults and 8 - on transplantation of bone marrow of children have been performed so far in the hospitals of Kazakhstan.

As the Deputy Minister noted, over 1.5 thousand open heart surgeries and 87 of them are truly unique have been performed in Kazakhstan.

Besides, E. Baizhanusov said that there had been established an institution within the National Medical Holding which would be holding telemedicine consultations with foreign healthcare organizations and hospitals.

In accordance with the Ministry of Healthcare of Kazakhstan, currently, there are 161 patients on the lists awaiting surgeries abroad and 86% of them need transplantation of organs.
