Laboratory for indentifying genetically modified products to be created in Kazakhstan by 2012 - Agriculture Ministry

Veterinary laboratory for idefining products containing genetically modified organisms is planned to create in Kazakhstan by 2012.

Astana. March 28. Kazakhstan Today - Veterinary laboratory for idefining products containing genetically modified organisms is planned to create in Kazakhstan by 2012. Vice Agriculture Minister Akylbek Kurishbayev informed today at the round table - Improvement of the legislation on food safety prior to introduction of the Republic of Kazakhstan to WTO, the agency reports.

"Veterinary laboratories existing in the Republic have no appropriate material and technical equipment and experience for carrying out scientific laboratory researches in the field of genetically modified products," A. Kurishbayev said.

"The Ministry of Agriculture for the forthcoming three years has planned construction of the veterinary laboratory for identifying products containing genetically modified organisms to solve the problem," he emphasized.

The Agriculture Vice Minister reminded that "manufacture of food products containing genetically modified organisms is widely used in the world, thus, the world community has not come yet to consensus concerning their harmlessness."

"Kazakhstan should be ready to inflow of genetically modified products," A. Kurishbayev considers.
