Launch of oil production at Kashagan postponed to 2013

Under a production sharing agreement (PSA) with the Government of Kazakhstan's start of mining of the first oil at Kashagan was planned for October 2013.

Atyrau. August 29. Kazakhstan Today - Early Oil production at Kashagan offshore field extended from December this year to 2013, Kazakhstan Today reports.

According to the managing director of "Agip KCO" company Umberto Carrara, under a production sharing agreement (PSA) with the Government of Kazakhstan's start of mining of the first oil at Kashagan was planned for October 2013. But the company is assumed that an experimental industrial development may begin earlier due to the PSA period - at the end of 2012. This date could be heard in reports of the North Caspian project. This year a decision was taken not to start production in difficult winter conditions, according to official media.

Although PSA allows to start the production in October 2013, these dates are shifted for early June of next year. This term was introduced in Amendment 4 to the number of the agreement on production sharing, as agreed with the Government of Kazakhstan in May this year. However, W. Carrara assured, that "most likely the production will begin until June, in the spring of next year, after the sea ice will have melted".

We recall, that previously it was widely reported that the development of oil production at the giant Kashagan field, with reserves exceeding 8 billion barrels, will begin in late 2012.
