Monetary base increased by 3.1 % in January, 2008 - Kazakhstan National Bank

Increase of net foreign assets of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan in January, 2008 caused expansion of monetary base by 3.1 % - up to 1509.5 billion KZT, the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan informed the agency.

Almaty. February 13. Kazakhstan Today - Increase of net foreign assets of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan in January, 2008 caused expansion of monetary base by 3.1 % - up to 1509.5 billion KZT, the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan informed the agency.

Narrow monetary base, that is monetary base without taking into account urgent deposits of the banks of the second level in the National Bank, increased by 2.9 % - up to 1496 billion KZT.

In particular, monetary weights for December, 2007 increased by 2.1 % - up to 4613.7 billion KZT - owing to increase in internal assets of the bank system. "As a whole, for 2007, growth of monetary weight made 25.5 % (for 2006 - 78.1 %)," the National Bank specified.

According to the press service of the bank, for December 2007 cash in circulation increased by 7.8 % - up to 739.7 billion KZT (for 2007 - growth makes 23.1 %), and deposits in the bank system - by 1 % - up to 3873.9 billion KZT (for 2007 growth by 25.9 %). The leading pace of growth of cash in circulation in comparison with pace of growth of deposits caused reduction of fraction of deposits in the structure of money supply from 84.8 % up to 84.0 %.

"Monetary multiplier has increased from 3.03 in November, 2007 up to 3.15 in December, 2007 (in December, 2006 - 2.45), as a result of growth of monetary weights on the background of compression of monetary base," the press release of the National Bank informs.
