New Chinese economic zone opened near Kazakhstan border

The new Chinese specialized economic zone has opened in Ili-Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture, in the northwest Sintszyan, near the border with Kazakhstan, the agency reports citing the Chinese edition China-briefing.

Almaty. September 3. Kazakhstan Today - The new Chinese specialized economic zone has opened in Ili-Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture, in the northwest Sintszyan, near the border with Kazakhstan, the agency reports citing the Chinese edition China-briefing.

Ili-Kazakh Autonomous region is mainly populated by ethnic Kazakhs. Total number of the population of this region - 4 million people, about 500 thousand from them live in the city of Inin (also known as Kuldzha). The new zone's area (200 square kilometers) will transform a nearby frontier point Horgas into the center of the Chinese-Kazakhstan trade, including for container transportations and the center of business contacts and tourism development between Kazakhstan and Sintszyan.

The district center, the city of Inin, is the agricultural market and shopping center of a valley of the river Ili. It has been long known as the center of trade for tea and cattle. It is still the agricultural area for animal industries. There are large fruit gardens there. Iron, coal, and uranium are extracted as well. This city was an important shopping center at the time of Genghis Khan and the main trading city of the Silk Road.
