Pumping of gas from deposit Shah Deniz to Baku - Tbilisi - Erzurum pipeline interrupted

BP-Azerbaijan Company has suspended pumping of gas to the pipeline of Baku - Tbilisi - Erzurum in connection with political events in Georgia, the company informed the agency.

Baku. August 14. Kazakhstan Today - BP-Azerbaijan Company has suspended pumping of gas to the pipeline of Baku - Tbilisi - Erzurum in connection with political events in Georgia, the company informed the agency.

"Pumping of gas to a gas pipeline has been stopped since August 12 for safety reasons in connection with political events in Georgia, but pressure in the pipe allows us to carry out deliveries of gas from the deposit Shah Deniz to Georgia and Turkey. Azerbaijan receives gas from Shah Deniz through the other system," the company informs.

It was informed earlier, in connection with political events transportation of oil has been suspended from the block of deposits Azeri - Chirag - Guneshli through the pipeline Baku - Supsa.

The contract on development of the deposit Shah Deniz was signed in Baku on June 4, 1996 and ratified by milli mejlisi on October 17, 1996. The participants of the project Shah Deniz are: BP (the operator - 25.5 %), Statoil (25.5 %), State oil company of Azerbaijan (10 %), Lucoil (10 %), NICO (10 %), TotalFinaElf (10 %) and TPAO (9 %). By a primary estimation of BP Company, stocks of Shah Deniz deposit make 625 billion cubic meters of gas and 101 million tons of condensate.

Extraction of gas from the deposit is carried out within Stage-1, providing extraction of 178 billion cubic meters of gas and 34 million tons of condensate. The cost of Stage-1 makes $4.1 billion. Gas extracted from Shah Deniz deposit through the gas pipeline Baku - Tbilisi - Erzurum is exported to Georgia and Turkey.
