Significant changes in exchange rate not forecasted - National Bank

The National Bank of Kazakhstan does not forecast significant changes in the exchange rate up to the end of 2007.

Astana. October 19. Kazakhstan Today - The National Bank of Kazakhstan does not forecast significant changes in the exchange rate up to the end of 2007. Vice chairman of the National Bank Daniyar Akishev said today at the plenary senate session.

"We do not expect any considerable changes in the exchange rate up to the end of this year," D. Akishev said.

He explained "the prices for energy carriers will remain high during current time. It is expected that the prices for oil will not decrease below $80 for barrel up to the end of this year."

"It will increase high export currency income and will provide demand for foreign currency in the internal currency market," D. Akishev explained.

"Dollar exchange rate decreases in the world markets in relation to all currencies, accordingly, it will decrease in relation to KZT as well."

"Commercial banks of Kazakhstan have restored their ability to re-finance abroad. Tentative estimations of the National Bank show that commercial banks successfully cope with their service. For example, for the first twelve days of October commercial banks could attract $1 billion 200 million," he explained.

D. Akishev noted, "the situation in the currency market remains quiet, the National Bank practically does not participate in the currency market."

In this context, in the opinion of the National Bank "the reasons for drastic change of the rate of the national currency at present time do not exist."
