New York. January 10. Kazakhstan Today - Slowing down of economic growth is expected up to 3.4 % in 2008. The new report of the United Nations - World Economic Situation and Prospects for 2008, which was presented yesterday in the UN headquarters in New York, states, the agency reports referring to the UN news center.

According to the report, the main reason is decrease of economic activity in the housing market of the USA and inability of any other developed countries to act in the role of the alternative to the USA locomotive of world economic growth.

The authors of the report consider that the main threat to steady development of the economy in the forthcoming years represent such factors, as the end of the boom period in the housing market of the USA, proceeding crisis in the world market of credits, falling of the rate of the American dollar in relation to other main currencies and high prices for oil.

The authors of the report pay attention that increasing debt of the balance of payments of the USA and growth of their external debt led to a significant dollar rate decrease, which since 2002 has depreciated approximately by 35 percent in relation to other main currencies.

The report also marked that significant consequences of chaos in the financial markets caused by crisis in the market of mortgage in the USA have been also noted in a number of the leading countries of Europe and to a lesser degree in Japan and other developed countries. The experts consider that this is the evidence of inability of other developed countries to act in the role of the alternative to the USA locomotive of world economic growth.
