Territory of former Semipalatinsk nuclear range to be used for economic needs

Ust Kamenogorsk. May 27. Kazakhstan Today - A part of the territory of former Semipalatinsk nuclear range needs to be used for economic purposes. The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Sauat Mynbayev, said during his visit to the Eastern Kazakhstan region, the agency reports.

"Former Semipalatinsk nuclear range occupies 300 square kilometers. We need to define suitability of these land areas if they can be used in agriculture. About eighty percent of the territory of the range can be used for economic purposes," S. Mynbayev said.

According to the Energy Minister, those objects, which cannot be used, should be securely fenced and well protected.

During his visit, S. Mynbayev visited Park of Nuclear Technologies where he familiarized with the projects of manufacture of mineral water and a line for manufacture of polythene foam and heat pumps.
