Toyota to freeze construction of new factories in Russia and Thailand

Toyota Motor Corp will freeze construction of the new factories in Russia and Thailand due to recession of global demand for automobiles, the agency reports citing Reuters.

Almaty. January 5. Kazakhstan Today - Toyota Motor Corp will freeze construction of the new factories in Russia and Thailand due to recession of global demand for automobiles, the agency reports citing Reuters.

According to Reuters that cites Japanese newspaper Sankei, last month Toyota for the first time in history informed on possible operational loss due to significant decrease of sales volume and strengthening of yen, which reduces competitiveness of the Japanese export.

The motor-car manufacturer plans to cut down capital expenses and volume of manufacture. Toyota intends to freeze construction of the new factories in the territory of the Russian Federation and Thailand.

In June, 2008, Toyota informed that it would construct a factory on manufacture of diesel engines in Thailand with the capacity of 150 thousand units of production a year.

The auto concern began manufacture of cars in St. Petersburg with the capacity of 50 thousand automobiles a year in December, 2007 and planned to construct one more factory, however, now Toyota postpones construction as the volume of manufacture of the existing capacities in the Russian Federation has appeared below the forecasts.
