Turnover by businesses in cultural and creative industries totals EUR 150 billion in Germany

Berlin. 22 September. Kazakhstan Today - In Germany, the companies working in the cultural and creative industries (CCI) sector generated a turnover of 150 billion euros in 2015, the agency reports.

The overall number of people employed in this sector, which is successfully integrated into the urban space, was over 1.6 million in 2015. In the same year the CCI sector numbered and estimated 250,600 companies. This is an increase of approximately 1.4% over last year. The number of companies in the CCI sector has continually grown.

According to the report of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, the culture and creative industries retained a stable, positive trend with annual average growth rates in revenues of 1.8% for the time period between 2010 and 2015. 23 percent of the country's population worked in the creative industries sector in 2015.

Over the last few decades, the culture and creative industries have become a major economic force in Germany. The creative industries, a complex of eleven economic sectors, are among the economy's most innovative sectors. Their contribution to total economic output (gross value added) is steadily increasing and today is already on a par with major sectors of industry, such as mechanical engineering.

The economic contribution of creative industries to Germany's GDP: in 2010 - 59.9 billion euros, in 2011 - 61.4 billion euros, in 2012 - 62.8 billion euros, 2013 - 63.7 billion euros, 2014 - 64 billion euros, in 2015 - 65.5 billion euros.

The industries ranges from architecture to books, design, film, art, the performing arts, music, journalism, broadcasting, software and video games, as well as advertising.

With it 3.4 million inhabitants, the German capital is a major international center of business founders, research, tourism and creative industries. About 500 thousands of creative people from all over the world work in Berlin. The Federal Government underlines the major economic and cultural opportunities that the cultural and creative industries represent for Germany. Thus the Government launched the Cultural and Creative Industries Initiative in autumn 2007 to support the industries. The main objective of the Initiative is to better inform the public about the sector and its importance. Also the Initiative was launched to support creative industries in becoming more competitive and by helping them develop their full potential in terms of employment.

The German Government's Center of Excellence for the Cultural and Creative Industries provides a broad range of services and expertise and is thus helping to raise greater awareness of the cultural and criative industries and thier role as an independent sector and driver of innovation. Much of the Center's work is focused on strengthening the sector's competitiveness, on initiating and supporting cooperation between the creative industries and other sectors, on highlighting the potential for innovation held within the creative industries, and on offering professionals from the cultural and creative industries a neutral platform for networking
