World prices for foodstuffs began to stabilize - FAO

Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) informs of stabilization of prices for food stuffs, the agency reports referring to the UN news center.

Almaty. May 16. Today - Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) informs of stabilization of prices for food stuffs, the agency reports referring to the UN news center.

According to FAO, index for April world prices of 55 basic kinds of foodstuffs, including flour and sugar, has gone down. On average, index of world prices for foodstuffs has decreased from 217 points in March up to 216.7 in April. For the last 12 months it has grown by 52 %.

Tendency for stabilization of prices has remained in the first two weeks of May as well. FAO employee Abdulreza Abasyan in the interview to UN Radio stated that it needs time so that world market prices for foodstuffs to stabilize.

Prices may decrease a little. They will not fall down sharply and decrease down to the level we are used to. Moreover, any minor alterations or problems no matter where can again push them upwards. So, unfortunately, not less than a year will pass until the situation will be finally stabilized," A. Abasyan said.
