Tokayev Orders Launch of Large-Scale Social Infrastructure Construction Programme
Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov briefed President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the country's socio-economic performance in the first half of the year, the Akorda presidential press service reported.

According to the prime minister, Kazakhstan's GDP grew by 4.1% in January-June. Growth was driven by manufacturing (9.8%), construction (15.2%), transport (7.1%), trade (5.7%), agriculture (4.4%) and communications (4.3%). Investment in fixed capital reached 9.5 trillion tenge, while private investment increased by 21.4%.

Bektenov also reported that 200 manufacturing projects with a total value of 1.7 trillion tenge are scheduled to be launched this year. The projects are expected to create 17,000 permanent jobs.

The president was also briefed on the implementation of major road infrastructure projects, the construction of a second airport in Astana, the development of the energy sector, digital infrastructure and tourism, as well as preparations for the Games of the Future 2026.

Special attention during the meeting was given to preparations for the upcoming heating season. This year, reconstruction work is being carried out on nine power generating units, 55 boilers and 51 turbines, with 384 billion tenge allocated for the programme.

Following the meeting, President Tokayev instructed the government to continue efforts to ensure sustainable economic growth and to begin implementing a large-scale programme for the construction of social and infrastructure facilities.

Particular emphasis, at the president's instruction, will be placed on building modern healthcare facilities.
