Drought in China left 6 million people without water and destroyed 3.5 million hectares of crop

The strongest drought in the southwest of China has left without water 6 million people and about 4 million heads of horned cattle. The Provinces Yunnan and Guizhou have been severely impacted. Absence of precipitation has caused a serious damage to agriculture and animal industries. In total, the drought has destroyed 3.5 million hectares of farmland, the agency reports citing RIA RosBusinessConsulting (RBC).

Almaty. February 22. Kazakhstan Today - The strongest drought in the southwest of China has left without water 6 million people and about 4 million heads of horned cattle. The Provinces Yunnan and Guizhou have been severely impacted. Absence of precipitation has caused a serious damage to agriculture and animal industries. In total, the drought has destroyed 3.5 million hectares of farmland, the agency reports citing RIA RosBusinessConsulting (RBC).

The drought has started to spread to the north of China, there has been no rain in a number of provinces for already 40 days.

The National Commission for Reforms and Development along with the Ministry of Finance of the Peoples Republic of China will allocate 640 million yuans ($93.7 million) to eliminate the drought's consequences. These funds will be used for modernization of the irrigational systems and water supply maintenance.
