30 UN member states informed on intention to take part in Days of International Contracts

Traditional Days of International Contracts will be held in the UN headquarters in New York on September 23 - September 25 and on September 29 - October 1. The UN Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon invited all the UN member countries to use this opportunity to participate in multilateral international agreements, the agency reports referring to the UN news center.

Almaty. September 23. Kazakhstan Today - Traditional Days of International Contracts will be held in the UN headquarters in New York on September 23 - September 25 and on September 29 - October 1. The UN Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon invited all the UN member countries to use this opportunity to participate in multilateral international agreements, the agency reports referring to the UN news center.

The UN Assistant Secretary General on Legal Affairs Patricia O'Brien informed at the press conference in headquarters of the United Nations in New York that about 30 states have responded to the UN Secretary General appeal.

This year these days are devoted to the contracts concerning 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, International Year of Planet - the Earth, the International Year of Sanitary and the International Polar Year. The states have been offered to pay special attention to agreements concerning transit and transport, which are of interest for the least developed landlocked countries. According to Patricia O'Brien, 53 contracts are on the priority list.

The secretariat of the United Nations has had the Days of International Contracts for the tenth time. This event is dated for general-political discussion at the General Assembly with participation of the leaders of the states and governments.

In the center of attention this year - Convention on the Rights of Disabled. It was approved in December, 2006. 131 states have signed this important international legal document as of today. 37 states ratified the convention that allowed it to come into force on May 3, 2008.
