63 session of UN General Assembly started its work in New York

The 63rd session of General Assembly of the United Nations started its work today, the agency reports referring to the UN press service.

Almaty. September 16. Kazakhstan Today - The 63rd session of General Assembly of the United Nations started its work today, the agency reports referring to the UN press service.

According to the UN press service, annual general debate will begin on Tuesday, on September 23 and will last till October 1. More than 120 leaders of the states and governments, Ministers for Foreign Affairs and chairmen of delegations are expected to make reports from the tribune of the UN General Assembly.

The Presidents of Brazil, the USA, France, Serbia, Argentina, Gabon, Iran will make reports on September 23 within the limits of general-political discussion. On the second half of the first day the Presidents of Georgia and Lithuania will make reports. The President of Ukraine will make a speech in the morning on September 24. The President of Tajikistan - on September 25, Kyrgyzstan - on September 26. The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Russia, according to the tentative list, will make speech on Monday, September 29.

The UN General Assembly is the main advisory body. It consists of representatives of all member states, each of which has one vote. Decisions on important questions, such as peace and security or acceptance of new members require a two thirds majority. Decisions on other issues are accepted by simple majority.

During the main part of the 63rd session of General Assembly more than 160 items on the agenda will be discussed. Among them are maintenance of peace and safety, struggle against terrorism, protection of human rights and environment, and social and economic development. The Assembly will continue consideration of the questions concerning reforming of Security Council and activization of the work and struggle against HIV/AIDS.

As it was informed earlier, the delegation of Kazakhstan will take part in the annual general debate headed by the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Marat Tazhin, on September 23 - October 1.

"The main event during the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs will be his speech in the hall of the UN General Assembly during which RK Foreign Minister will talk about position of Kazakhstan on the urgent issues of the global agenda of the organization, Y. Ashikbayev emphasized.
