Astana to host VII annual meeting of Consortium for Central Asian Border Security Initiative

Astana will host VII annual meeting of the Consortium for the Central Asian Border Security Initiative on September 22-23, the agency reports referring to Department of Public Information of Representation of the European Commission in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

Kazakhstan Today - Astana will host VII annual meeting of the Consortium for the Central Asian Border Security Initiative on September 22-23, the agency reports referring to Department of Public Information of Representation of the European Commission in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

"The participants will gather to analyze the results of activity of the European Union's Border Management Project (EU BMP), drug addiction prevention program (EU DAP) in Central Asia, and discussion of further directions of activity and necessary financing," the press release informs.

VI meeting of the Consortium for the Central Asian Border Security Initiative took place in October of 2007 in Bishkek. The delegations of the countries of the region - Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan discussed the problems of border control, their strengthening, struggle against transit of drugs and drug-dealing.

The members of the Consortium for the Central Asian Border Security Initiative headed by Austria are Great Britain, Finland, France, Poland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Croatia and the USA are independent partners of this organization.
