Azerbaijan and Russia agreed to promote development and signing of cooperation agreements on Caspian Sea
Baku. July 4. Kazakhstan Today - Azerbaijan and Russia agreed to promote development and signing of cooperation agreements on the Caspian Sea, including in the field of navigation and fishery. The Declaration on friendship and strategic partnership was signed by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev, following the results of the negotiations in Baku, the agency reports.
"The parties confirm adherence to developed and operating international legal order on the Caspian Sea, including the signed between Azerbaijan, Russia and Kazakhstan agreements on differentiation of bottom of the Caspian Sea for subsoil use," the document states.
The leaders of two countries also called upon Caspian littoral states for signing of "similar mutually acceptable agreements."
The parties undertake to carry out all the arrangements reached at the second Caspian Summit in October 2007, for "prompt achievement of universal settlement of the legal status of the Caspian Sea."
The Declaration also underlines that Russia and Azerbaijan plan to strengthen and expand their military and military-technical cooperation.
"Each of the parties will not allow on their territory of the other party realization by institutions, organizations, or companies of activity that could damage sovereign rights and interests of the other party," the document informs.
