Bishkek. July 11. Kazakhstan Today - Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan are at the negotiation stage on signing of the quadrilateral agreement on use of hydro-power and fuel resources of Naryn-Syr-Darya pool. Vice Minister of Industry, Energy and Fuel Resources of Kyrgyzstan Akyl Tyumenbayev informed, the agency reports.

As it was informed earlier, the regional meeting of chairmen of hydroeconomic and fuel and energy branches of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan took place in Bishkek on June 9-10 2008. The main question for discussion was one of the most important themes in Central Asia - use of resources of Naryn-Syr-Darya pool this year and in the first quarter of 2009.

During the negotiations the participants agreed on delivery by Kyrgyzstan 1 billion kw/h of electric power to the adjacent countries and additional drawdown of water in volume of 1.2 billion cubic meters. However, the Uzbek party refused to sign the protocol of quadrilateral meeting for unknown reason. In this connection, it was decided to start export of electric power and additional drawdown of water only after signing of the quadrilateral agreement.

Uzbekistan has expressed desire to sign the bilateral agreement only with the Kyrgyzstan party on use of hydro-power and fuel resources of Naryn-Syr-Darya pool, ignoring the quadrilateral agreement.
