Minsk. May 19. Kazakhstan Today - The Council of chairmen of CIS migration bodies has coordinated the project of Convention on Legal Status of Migrant Workers and members of their families at the special meeting of the Council in CIS Executive Committee in Minsk, the press service the Executive Committee informed the agency.

According to vice chairman of Department of Citizenship and Migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belorussia Sergey Matus, the work on the project of Convention has been carried out since 2000. In October, 2007 the document was practically ready to be signed, however, due to amendments in Migration Legislation the Russian party had to introduce a number of amendments and additions. As a result, additional expert study of the project has been required, which took place on May 15.

"Convention practically equalizes the rights of CIS migrant workers migrating from one state to another in search of temporary employment." Thus, such labor activity, as a rule, is performed during one year and can be prolonged upon signing an agreement with an employer in the future.

The work over the project of the convention will be continued at the next council meeting of the chairmen of migration bodies. Following the results, the parties will accept decision on introduction of the project for consideration in the CIS Prime Ministers' Council.
