China asked to release ethnic Kazakhs detained for dual citizenship

The Foreign Ministries of Kazakhstan and China held consultations on consular affairs.
In the last week, Beijing held the regular Kazakh-Chinese consultations on consular affairs. The Kazakhstan delegation was led by director of the Department of Consular Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Ardak Madiyev, the Chinese delegation was led by director of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China Guo Shaochun, a press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan reports.

The sides held extensive negotiations on the current matters of bilateral cooperation in the consular sphere, protection of the rights and interests of citizens of the two states, as well as travels of citizens of Kazakhstan and China.

The Kazakhstan side raised the issue on the status of ethnic Kazakhs who moved from China to Kazakhstan and those who received the citizenship of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The urgent request on impartial and fair consideration of the cases and to release ethic Kazakhs detained in China for dual citizenship. Agreement to work out common approaches to resolve the problems of ethnic Kazakhs from Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region has been reached," reports the press service.


During the consultations, the liberalization of a visa regime between the states was also discussed. The sides exchanged the information on the existing order of entering/leaving and staying in transit in international airports of Kazakhstan and China of Kazakhstan and Chinese citizens.

Taking into account the technical character of the emerging issues in the visa policy, the sides expressed the readiness to create favorable conditions for travels of citizens of the two states, as well as agreed to continue holding regular consultations.
