CIS special services discuss counter-terrorism in Almaty

The agenda includes also development of the operational situation in the border with the countries of the Commonwealth of the northern provinces of Afghanistan
October 25, Almaty will host a meeting of the Council of Heads of Security Agencies and Special Services of the Commonwealth of the Independent States, press service of the CIS executive committee reports.

The agenda includes twenty issues. Particularly strategy and tactics of international terrorist organizations at the present stage, preventing the use of the Internet in terrorist activities, the development of the operational situation in the northern provinces of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan bordering on the Commonwealth countries and its impact on the state of security of the CIS member states.

The meeting will argue cooperation in countering the illegal activities of representatives of banned terrorist and extremist organizations operating from the territory of European countries, measures to ensure the safety of preparing and holding the XXIX World Winter Universiade in Krasnoyarsk and increasing the efficiency of using the Joint Fingerprint Data Bank of the CIS countries.

Besides, there were summed up the results of the joint antiterrorist exercise of the competent authorities, which took place this year in Kyrgyzstan, and the operational-strategic exercise on the operational-search "Zaslon-2018" (Barrier).

It is expected the members of the Council will discuss the development of a Specialized Databank of the CIS ATC, improving the work on assisting in organizing training for specialists and instructors of security, intelligence and law enforcement agencies involved in the fight against terrorism, will consider the draft Program of Cooperation of the Commonwealth of Independent States the fight against terrorism and other violent manifestations of extremism for 2020 2022.

In addition, the meeting will summarize results of sessions of a number of commissions under the Council (on scientific and technical cooperation, information security, combating illegal international trafficking in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, ensuring the security of international transport communication), and also consider the establishment of a Commission for cooperation in the field of economic security.

The Council of Heads of Security and Special Services Bodies of CIS Member States was founded in 1997. The Council’s mission ensuring effective cooperation in the fight against organized crime of an international character and in other agreed areas of special services. Above 60 draft documents on interaction, information exchange, development of recommendations and proposals for the joint provision of national and collective security in the CIS space were developed. The Council has also designed a number of important documents in the field of joint counteraction against international terrorism.
