Convicted Kazakhstan citizens in UAE to be extradited to homeland

The corresponding agreement was signed by General Prosecutor Mairat Kozhamzharov and Minister of Justice of the UAE Sultan bin Saeed Al Badi.
Astana within an official visit of Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan – Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of the UAE held the signing of an agreement between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the United Arabic Emirates on extradition of convicted persons.

The international document will allow citizens of the two states, in case of their sentence for crimes to imprisonments abroad, to serve years in their homelands. In turn, it will create favorable conditions for rehabilitation and integration of those convicted in the society of their nationality," they said in the General Prosecutor’s Office.


As of today, 5 Kazakhstan’s citizens serve sentences in the UAE, who after the ratification of the agreement could ask for extradition. From March 16, 2009, an agreement on mutual legal assistance in legal cases and extradition has been acting between the two states.

Over this period, Kazakhstan received 9 persons who were hiding in the territory of the Arabic Emirates.

The United Arabic Emirates has become one more country of the Persian Gulf with which Kazakhstan established the necessary international and legal base for cooperation in the area of combatting crimes, ensuring the rule of law, as well as protecting the fundamental rights and interests of citizens.
