CRRF agreement signed

Astana. June 15. Kazakhstan Today - The agreement of CSTO Collective Rapid Response Forces and a number of documents regulating their activity were signed at the session of the CSTO Council of Collective Security, the agency reports citing the president's press service.

According to the press service, the President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, took part in the regular session of the CSTO Council of Collective Security taken place in Moscow

The participants of the session of the CSTO Council of Collective Security discussed a number of important questions of further improvement of the work of the CSTO. In particular, the agreement of the CSTO CRRF was signed along with a number of documents regulating their activity.

CSTO CRRF is being created as a component of permanent readiness of the forces of the system of collective security and intended for operative reaction to the challenges and threats of safety of the CSTO states, including possible acts of terrorism and emergencies.

The question of necessity of their creation was discussed by the heads of the states during the informal CSTO summit in Borovoy in December, 2008 and at the subsequent meeting in February, 2009 in Moscow. The decision when to use CRRF will be made by the Council of Collective Security based on consensus.
