CSTO's first peacemaking exercise to take place in Kazakhstan in October

The exercise will practice the formation of collective peacekeeping forces for the sake of carrying out a peacemaking mission in a hypothetical Central Asia country that belongs to the CSTO. In line with the exercise scenario a crisis situation has evolved in the country due to actions of international extremist and terrorist organizations and contradictions between ethnic groups

Minsk. October 5. Kazakhstan Today - The first peacemaking exercise of the member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization will take place in Kazakhstan on 8-17 October, according to CSTO Press Secretary Vladimir Zainetdinov.

As BelTA informs, the peacemaking exercise "Indestructible Brotherhood 2012", will take place at three firing ranges near Almaty - Iliysky, Shoshkala, and Bereg. "The exercise will practice the formation of collective peacekeeping forces for the sake of carrying out a peacemaking mission in a hypothetical Central Asia country that belongs to the CSTO. In line with the exercise scenario a crisis situation has evolved in the country due to actions of international extremist and terrorist organizations and contradictions between ethnic groups," the news agency reports.

"The Indestructible Brotherhood 2012 exercise is expected to build up mutual understanding and cooperation between the CSTO member states in peacekeeping. It will also allow practicing cooperation between control bodies of the collective peacekeeping forces. There are also plans to train commanders and staffs to manage such forces as they accomplish peacemaking tasks. The personnel will be given an opportunity to improve their field training and combat shakedown, said the source," the Belarusian agency writes.

"There are plans to invite representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross for lessons in international humanitarian law during the exercise. Representatives of the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations will be invited as observers to monitor the active phase of the exercise on 17 October. Representatives of the International Organization for Migration, the CIS Executive Committee, the diplomatic corps accredited in Kazakhstan will be invited as well," the agency concluded.
