Almaty. December 11. Kazakhstan Today - The decision on renewal of negotiations to join World Trade Organization (WTO) can be made in January, 2010, the agency reports citing RosBusinessConsulting (RBC).

According to the head of Department of Trade Negotiation of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, Maxim Medvedkov, WTO has requested the information on the Customs Union. The documents will be prepared until the end of the year and will be sent to WTO for its consideration. We will have to wait for their decision to renew the negotiations," he noted.

In October, 2009, M. Medvedkov informed that joining of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan of WTO will be carried out on the coordinated conditions, which will be completely harmonized.

"The Customs Union delegation informed WTO members that they will continue joining WTO de jure as sovereign countries as other approaches could cause serious legal and procedural problems and essentially hold back WTO negotiations.

WTO rules do not interfere with creation of the customs unions, however, all customs unions until now have been formed only among WTO members," M. Medvedkov underlined.

The Prime Ministers of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan made a decision to notify WTO on introduction of the organization as a uniform customs territory in June, 2009. All three countries suspended bilateral negotiations to join the organization for the period of carrying out of consultations on formation of a Customs Union uniform position.
