Declaration of Caspian summit secured arrangements at political level - Kazakhstan MFA

Final declaration of the second summit of the near-Caspian states, which took place on October 16 in Teheran, has secured the existing arrangements at the political level.

Astana. October 23. Kazakhstan Today - Final declaration of the second summit of the near-Caspian states, which took place on October 16 in Teheran, has secured the existing arrangements at the political level. The official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Yerzhan Ashikbayev has given the assessment of the results of the summit, which came to the end last week, at the traditional briefing in Astana.

In the document the leaders of the states noted rapprochement of positions of the parties on a number of conceptual questions of the legal status of the Caspian Sea and emphasized the necessity of activization of the negotiating process on this issue. "The specific agreements were reached in this direction: in particular, the leaders of the states agreed to hold the meetings once a year and in the periods between them - the meetings of the ministers for Foreign Affairs two times a year, and on creation of expert group,s concerning stability and security, joint rational use, protection and replenishment of biological resources and ecological security of the Caspian Sea," the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed.

The presidents of the states agreed to carry out by summer of 2008 in the Russian Federation the conferences of the parties, concerning economic cooperation in order to expand and strengthen the interstate communications of the countries of the near-Caspian region. "During the forum the discussion of the questions of development the sea, railway transportation, trade, tourism, rational use, protection and reproduction of biological resources with participation of the delegations of the parties at the level of vice prime ministers and the chairmen of the profile ministries and departments," Y. Ashikbayev explained.

The Kazakhstan MFA representative reminded that the next summit of the near-Caspian states decided to be held in 2008 in the Azerbaijan Republic.
