EU plans to keep daylight saving time

According to public opinion survey, carried out by the European Commission, 84% of respondents suppose clocks won't be changing.
Head of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker said that the EU plans to cancel the transfer of the clock for summer and winter time, Kommersant reports.

Considering the demands of European citizens, the EU authorities intend to propose to cancel the transition to winter time, according to a poll conducted by the European Commission in which 4.6 million Europeans took part, 84% of respondents consider it necessary to refuse the transfer of hours for winter and summertime," head of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker informed on Saturday.

He also announced according to 76% of respondents, the transfer of the clock 2 times a year entails a number of "negative consequences": harm to people's health, an increase in the number of accidents, etc.

Millions of people responding to poll answered and they think that in the future we will have summertime all year round, so it will be so. People want – we do it, " Junker said.

It should be reminded that the transition to winter/summer time was approved for all EU countries in 1996 for reasons of energy savings. That the refusal of the transition to winter time came into force, it must be supported by all 28 EU member states and the European Parliament. As one of the options, the European Commission proposes to each of the states to make their own decision on whether to leave a permanent summer or winter time.
