Astana. October 10. Kazakhstan Today - The European Union is interested in deepening cooperation with Kazakhstan. The Secretary General of the EU Council Javier Solana said today at the briefing after the meeting with the Minister for Foreign Affairs Marat Tazhin, the agency reports.

"The purpose of the visit is strengthening relations between Kazakhstan and the European Union," J. Solana emphasized, having noted "Kazakhstan is an extremely important country for the EU." He noted that the European Union plans to further advance new strategy of cooperation with Central Asia." "We plan to state this strategy more profound and begin its realization," he said.

In his turn, the Kazakhstan Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized the interest of Kazakhstan in development of relations with the European Union, having noted, "EU is the main trading partner of Kazakhstan." As it was informed earlier, the Secretary General of the EU Council, the High Representative of the EU General Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana is visiting Astana within the limits of his tour across Central Asia.
