Foreign Minister, NATO Secretary General discussed NATO-Kazakhstan cooperation

The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Marat Tazhin, and NATO Secretary General, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, discussed the questions of cooperation of Kazakhstan within the Individual Partnership Program, the agency reports citing the head of the press service Ilyas Omarov.

Astana. June 24. Kazakhstan Today - The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Marat Tazhin, and NATO Secretary General, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, discussed the questions of cooperation of Kazakhstan within the Individual Partnership Program, the agency reports citing the head of the press service Ilyas Omarov.

I. Omarov reminded that NATO Secretary General, Jaap de Hoop Sheffer, arrived in Kazakhstan to participate in Third Security Forum of Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council (EAPC).

"During the visit to Kazakhstan, NATO Secretary General met the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, M. Tazhin. During the meeting, the officials discussed the questions of preparation for the forum, the questions of cooperation of Kazakhstan with NATO in the framework of the Individual Partnership Program between Kazakhstan and NATO," Foreign Ministry press secretary informed.

According to the press service, the questions of cooperation of Kazakhstan with NATO were discussed during its presidency in OSCE next year. "Sheffer, being in 2003 the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Holland, when the country was the chairman of OSCE, was on the post of the chairman, therefore, the officials discussed presidency of Kazakhstan in OSCE," I. Omarov explained.

The head of the press service also informed that NATO Secretary General plans the meetings with the Minister of Defense and the President of Kazakhstan.

The Minister of Defense of Kazakhstan, Muhtar Altynbayev, held the meeting with NATO Secretary General, Jaap de Hoop Sheffer, in Astana.
