Intergovernmental agreement on Trans-Asiatic Railways network to come into force

The intergovernmental agreement on Trans-Asiatic railways network will come into force on June 11th, the agency reports citing the UN press service.

Almaty. June 10. Kazakhstan Today - The intergovernmental agreement on Trans-Asiatic railways network will come into force on June 11th, the agency reports citing the UN press service.

According to the international organization, the interstate agreement establishes railway standards and provides development of four routes of international importance. The agreement is aimed at creation of Trans-Asiatic international system of railways with extent of 114 thousand kilometres, which will connect 28 countries of the region. The document was signed in November, 2006 in the seaport of South Korea Busan during the ministerial conference of the members of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).

The new contract assumes development of four international routes. The northern corridor will connect Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, China and the Korean Peninsula. The southern corridor will connect Thailand and the Chinese province Yunnan with Turkey. It will pass through Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Iran. The sub-regional network takes in the countries of Southeast Asia: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. The transport corridor the North - the South will connect Northern Europe and Persian Gulf. It will pass through Russia, Central Asia and Caucasus.

The agreement will come into force on the ninetieth day after it is ratified by eight states. China became the eighth state. The contract was already ratified by Cambodia, India, Mongolia, the Republic of Korea, Russia, Tajikistan and Thailand.
